Hi! I’m Sal Carranza: I’ve spent 19 years in legal. Litigation partner. Management consultant at an ALSP. Founded a hybrid law firm with a custom tech and data stack. Now I run PossibLaw, where we train legal professionals to build with AI, not just use it.
This Substack is where I think out loud.
Field notes from someone who’s practicing what he preaches: systems design, context engineering, leverage thinking, and the iterative builder mindset that makes all of it work. I write about what I’m building, what’s breaking, what I got wrong, and what I’d tell the version of me who was still figuring out where legal and AI actually meet.
What you’ll get:
The build in public. Real experiments, real workflows, real results. How I’m designing AI systems for legal teams and what I’m learning along the way. No theory without practice.
The reframe. Takes on legal AI, the profession’s resistance to change, and why the biggest risk for legal professionals isn’t AI itself, it’s standing still while someone else designs the future for them.
The toolkit. Systems design thinking, context engineering, workflow architecture. Practical stuff you can take back to your team and actually use. Not “10 prompts for lawyers.” The kind of thinking that compounds.
The occasional curveball. Fútbol analogies. Dad jokes. Travel dispatches. The human stuff that keeps the ideas flowing and the newsletter worth opening.
I believe smart legal professionals should be at the table where their industry is being redesigned. Not watching from the sidelines. Not waiting for a vendor to hand them a solution.
Building. That’s the whole point.
My North star: prove that anything is possible when multidisciplinary minds build together. Subscribe, pull up a chair, and let’s invent what’s next, together.
